Information for authors
The Scientific Committee invites authors to submit abstracts to be considered for inclusion
in the Scientific Program as Oral, Poster or Video Presentations. Participants wishing
to contribute to the Scientific Program of the Congress are kindly requested to submit
their abstracts before December 1st, 2008, together with the registration form and
the registration fee of at least one author (Presenting).
The Scientific Committee will endeavour to schedule abstracts according to authors’
preferances but reserves the right to decide on the final form of presentation.
Abstract Format
1. Size: The abstract should not exceed 250 words.
2. Style: We recommend to structure the abstract into paragraphs, like Backround,
Aims, Methods, Results,Summary/ Conclusions. The abstract must be typed in
English in Times New Roman 11pt and will be adjusted in size for printing.
3. Please enter your information as follows:
a. Title: The title must be in capitals and should not exceed 20 words.
b. Author’s names: The name of the Presenting Author should be mentioned first
underlined. Separate multiple authors with commas.
c. Institution(s): Abbreviate if necessary; full postal addresses are unnecessary.
d. Backround: A short introduction, is needed to the backround of the study. Limit
information to the essentials. If you are referring to published work then you must cite it.
e. Aim: Please mention the aim of the study.
f. Methods: Give enough details for the reader to understand what techniques were
used; include details of statistical methods.
g. Results: Results must be stated. If the method should ordinarily produce numerical
data, then numbers must be presented with appropriate statistical results.
h. Summary/ Conclusions.
i. References (up to three): Surname(s), initials, title of paper,
volume, pages, year.
Free Papers - Plenary Session
I. The best 18 abstracts will be presented during the assigned plenary sessions
II. All presentations during the Plenary Sessions will be followed by an invited commentary
III. Full manuscripts for publication in HPB Journal is mandatory, in order abstracts to be considered for presentation during plenary sessions. For this purpose authors should “tick” the appropriate box when submitting. HPB guarantees fast track publication after peer review.
How to submit the Full Version Of The Manuscripts
If you agree to present your abstract at one of the plenary sessions, the full version of the manuscript must be submitted on line at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/hpb. The on line system will take you step by step through the submission of your manuscript. Authors should be agreed for publication of their work in HPB before accepting to present during a plenary session and committing to the submission of a manuscript.
Acceptance / Rejection of Presentation
The Scientific Committee will review all submitted abstracts. Selected abstracts will be
presented as Oral, Poster or Video presentations. Authors of abstracts accepted for presentation
will receive notification and information regarding their presentation, by
February 15th, 2009. Selected abstracts will be published.
Oral Presentations
All authors will be informed in written of details concerning their exact time of presentation.
The scheduled time of each presentation should not exceed 8 minutes plus 2 minutes
discussion. All Congress Halls will be equipped with data video projector for Power
Point presentations.
Poster Presentations
Posters will be gathered, numbered and listed according to the Scientific Committee’s
instructions. Posters will be affixed, discussed and removed on the dates and at the
times, which will be communicated to authors. Posters Size: Maximum width: 85 cm,
Maximum Height 150 cm. Only scotch tape and self-adhesive pads are allowed.
Video Presentations
Video presentations are accepted. They should last no longer than 8 minutes, plus 5 for
final discussion. All presenters will be informed in written concerning their exact time of
presentation. The scheduled time of each video presentation should not exceed 8 minutes
plus 5 minutes discussion.
PC Reception
A PC reception desk for acceptance and checking of PC disks will be located nearby the
Congress Halls. All PC disks should be clearly labeled with the author’s name and the
respective session. Speakers are kindly requested to hand out their PC disks at least 2
hours prior to their respective presentation.
